FROM PREPARATION TO FINISH

Your project sequence.

Use this as a planning guide. The chosen product’s technical instructions determine preparation, application and timing.

01

Confirm the wood and old finish

Identify the wood and whether the old coating needs removal. A stain requires the surface condition specified by its manufacturer.

02

Prepare consistently

Clean and sand as directed. Uneven preparation can create uneven colour. Remove dust using a compatible method.

03

Test the complete system

Try the stain and protective finish on a discreet area of the same wood. Check colour, adhesion and compatibility.

04

Apply as directed

Some stains are wiped; others follow a different method. Use the specified applicator, working time and excess-removal instructions.

05

Allow the required drying

Wait for the stain’s specified drying time before any next coat or protective finish. Do not rely only on how dry it feels.

06

Protect and cure

Apply a compatible protective finish if required. Follow its coat, recoat and cure instructions before putting the piece into use.
