Full product details, applications & manufacturer specifications
SharkSkin® Solid Hide is a water-based exterior stain that gives decks and siding an opaque, uniform finish. Its acrylic hybrid technology combines adhesion and scuff resistance with protection against cracking, peeling and blistering.
Where to use it
Use on exterior wood decks, patios, stair treads, fences, railings, soffits and trim, as well as the wood, composite, cement-board siding and cementitious surfaces listed by Cloverdale.
Preparation
The surface must be sound, clean and dry. Remove loose coatings, clean and rinse thoroughly, then scuff sand with 80–120 grit and remove the dust. New lumber must season for 2–4 weeks in normally dry conditions; pressure-treated wood needs at least 4 weeks. Follow Cloverdale’s deck-construction and priming requirements. Badly weathered or oxidized wood requires 05150 SharkSkin Adhesion Promoting Primer/Sealer. Replace rotten boards; stain will not stop rot.
Application and limitations
Apply at least two coats at the recommended spread rate without overbuilding. Maintain a wet edge. Apply only in dry conditions, with air and surface temperatures of 10–30°C maintained for at least 6 hours afterward. Avoid direct sun, relative humidity above 85%, deck temperatures above 35°C, and application within 6 hours before or after rain. Cooler temperatures, high humidity and heavy films extend drying. Use adequate ventilation and protect from freezing. Disturbing old lead paint can release toxic dust; follow the technical sheet’s lead-exposure precautions. Read the complete technical and safety sheets before use.
Recommended uses
Exterior wood decks, patios, stairs, siding, fences, railings, soffits and trim; also the composite, cement-board and cementitious surfaces listed by the manufacturer.

SharkSkin® Wood Cleaner & Brightener
Clean and brighten wood before applying SharkSkin stain.
Use for the cleaning step; rinse and let wood dry to the chosen stain’s current requirements.

SharkSkin® Wood Stain Stripper
Remove a failing or incompatible old finish when stripping is needed.
Not every deck needs stripping. For translucent stain, prepare bare wood; brighten if stripping causes tannin darkening.

SharkSkin® Mill Glaze Remover
Treat mill glaze when it prevents stain penetration.
Only where the wood needs glaze removal; follow preparation and drying instructions.
